Greencoat Forum with Shaffiq Din and Sarah Tranter
21/02/2012 - 18:30 - 21:00
Shaffiq Din, Coordinating and Muslim Chaplain, and Sarah Tranter, Pastoral Care and Faith Alliance Manager, Rochester Young Offenders Institution will speak on Addressing youth violence and reoffending – the role of prison chaplaincies.
The riots in Britain last August raised many questions about their causes. Prison capacities were pushed to the limit by the (mainly) young people who took part in the riots. One group of people who have an intimate under standing of the motivations of young offenders are the prison chaplains. Two members of the multifaith chaplaincy team at Rochester Young Offenders Institution, which has won praise from the Inspectorate of Prisons, are Shaffiq Din, Coordinating and Muslim Chaplain, and Sarah Tranter, Pastoral Care and Faith Alliance Manager. They will share what they have learned from their experience of Muslim-Christian collaboration in developing strategies for helping young offenders adopt positive life-styles.
